What?!?! Local councils praised for traffic plans by Minister. What is this person on?
This has been reported today, 'Councils in the former Avon area have been praised by the Government for developing plans to beat jams and keep traffic flowing.Transport Minister Rosie Winterton gave Bristol, North Somerset, South Gloucestershire and Bath and North East Somerset a 'good' rating for its Local Transport Plan, which aims to cut down congestion around the city.' My reaction: What?!?! How can this possibly be! Has this person ever seen traffic congestion in Bristol? Has she ever experienced the sheer quality and good value (NOT) of a Bristol bus or train journey? Or the accident risks, unhealthy air, noise... a cyclist, pedestrian or indeed car driver has to endure here?? Come and look properly around here Minister. Investment in local public transport and sustainable transport needs to triple to bring us up to scratch. Perhaps then people like Dave Hough from Henbury, writing today that something must be done about Bristol's buses, would feel that something had been done.
