Stop Sainsbury's on Ashton Gate

Link to Stop Sainsbury's website...

STOP SAINSBURY’S is a group of local residents, campaigning to stop plans to rebuild the local store at DOUBLE ITS CURRENT SIZE on the Ashton Gate football ground. This would make it a regional destination and “the biggest Sainsbury’s in the South West”.

Find out more about the
revised Sainsbury’s proposal, or find out what you can do to help by writing to the planning department or getting in touch with your local councillor. Every letter and email will count in this decision process, so make sure that your voice gets heard.

Alternatively,
use the contact form to send us your details and we can keep you up to date.

Together we can stop a new superstore in BS3 for the third time.

You say: "STOP SAINSBURY’S is a group of local residents"?
If this claim were correct, why do you then say: "Together we can stop a new superstore in BS3 for the third time"?
As you are clearly a resident of BS4, how can you claim to be part of the local residents by using the term (we).
I remember past discussions we had about the Tesco proposals for the site, you did not think it correct that people from outside the area could have a say in the local community.
You probably think it ok that people far and wide are allowed and encouraged to now, have a say when opposing not only these plans but also the stadium and supporting village green.
Hypocrisy, I think it's called, and it's prevalent in green party strategies at a local level.
    Rich.

  2. Er...I'm not a member of this group and am not involved in the campaign Rich. I've made no personal claims at all on this post and am simply passing on a sample of what the blog itself says (thus my use of bold italics instead of the normal). If you took the trouble to look at the Stop Sainsburys site instead of going on an unjustified rant you'd realise that all I've done here is copied their 'intro' so that readers of my blog get a flavour of what the site I've linked to is all about.

  3. And of course, Richard Lane, who is not from the area, is loudly in favour of the supermarket and trolls blogs all over the place making sure everyone knows.

The biggest hypocrit in town - Richard Lane

  4. Yes, a good point Harry T. I'd also point out that Rich said above 'I remember past discussions we had about the Tesco proposals for the site, you did not think it correct that people from outside the area could have a say in the local community'. Rich has great trouble remembering accurately any correct details of what I have argued - or is it that he deliberately misattributes to suit his warped view?? I have never said that people from outside a local area should/could have no say...what I said was that in my view local people should have the biggest/final say (as a Green I believe very strongly in local democracy and the decentralisation of power).

You are plainly supporting the campaign and as such are part of that group.
There is no indication that this headline was not written by you, the link comes first, then the statement.
You claim (as a Green I believe very strongly in local democracy and the decentralisation of power)and that locals should have the final say. Why are you helping Tess Green with Southville and Bristol issues?

  6. Rich this does not move debate on at all really - and the first time you sent a similar message it didn't even get past the blogspot auto spam filter because of its 'additional content'! Please read the statement about genuine, open, reasonable debate - and take the trouble to look over my blog, its standard format for others words and how I've used the share button.

Clearly I support the campaign and I've never said otherwise. There are several posts on this blog supporting it right from its early stages, publicly and directly!! One headline I used was 'Insainsbury's' for instance. I've written to the papers about the issue too. Being a member of the group is somewhat different eg I dont know who else belongs to it, I've never been to any meetings or had any direct contact with them.... Its the same with many campaigns supported on this blog, both local, national and indeed global ones.

Er...if you click on the headline it goes direct to the website in question Rich - have you not heard of the 'share' button (for spreading stories/website links you like with a simple click)?? That's what I've done here - and added a brief extract from their site, in bold italics, my blog standard format for the words of others.

Why am I helping Tess Green? Er...she is a Cllr in Bristol South and a member of Bristol South Green Party, as am I. Until the recent AGM I was the Coordinator of the Bristol South Party and have long been one of its most active members. As such I organised and chaired meetings and took part in policy formation....etc. What's the issue here??

As for decentralisation - you just dont get it at all.

It's probably not a members only group, it's a group of people opposed to the Sainsbury's plans, you support them in their campaign so as such are one of them, they don't after all request that only local residents can support them. You like me are not local, yet feel you can join them opposing these plans.
The issue is this "As such I organised and chaired meetings and took part in policy formation....etc". So you have been involved in policy formation for areas you do not represent or are a resident of.
Thank you for your patronising response about reading your site, unfortunately I have far more important things to do than spend hours reading uninspiring bias statements that many other people can't also be bothered to read or comment on.

  8. Rich, you appear to believe that the coordinator of Bristol South Greens, a lifelong resident and campaigner in this area, should not Chair meetings or take part in Green Party policy formation for Bristol South. How bizarre is that!

It appears you know little about the 'probably not a members only' (your words) Stop Sainsbury's campaign but are willing to spout off about it - and even assign me membership of the campaign!!

You are seriously confused about what decentralisation of power means. For the record its about speading and sharing power more, more power (not all power) in local communities, and having appropriate powers at the most appropriate levels. Its just good sense that I have a say in my local neighbourhood but I also live in Knowle, Bristol South, Bristol, the South West, England, the UK, the EU....and so on...so through my membership of the Greens why should I not take part in policy formation and meetings that relates to all these levels??

If you dont like this blog I suggest you stop reading and commmenting on its posts! You dont really enage with what I've said in any case.
